Some of our speakers are also prolific authors. Just over the past weeks, two potential bestsellers got published, and we expect a few later this year. Now, policies of both speakers and their publishers might vary, but when you hire one of our speakers you might be eligible for a book deal.
Published got a book by Joel Backaler on China´s outbound investments,China Goes West: Everything You Need to Know About Chinese Companies Going Global. Mario Cavolo got his book published for North America, China: The Big Lie?: The Truth of Trillions in a Culture of Cash. Paul French saw his latest book North Korea: State of Paranoia hitting Amazon.
Shaun Rein will publish his new book The End of Copycat China: The Rise of Creativity, Innovation, and Individualism in Asia. We also expect Zhang Lijia´s long awaited book on prostitution in China to hit the online sales around the summer.
Some of our speakers see books as a support act for their speaking activities, and might actually bring their books along for free. Others can get their books for a decent discount from their publishers, or offer a discount themselves, since they see their book also as a good way to promote themselves, but still have to make a living from selling their books.
We often suggest to clients that we can include a book deal in our speakers´ assignment, but it is not yet a standard offer. Because of the many differences between authors, such an offer is hard to standardize. But we know it adds value to a speech and an event, when people can take something home.
If we forget to mention such a deal, and if you are interested in a book deal, do let us know, and we will try to work out a deal that adds value to your event. Not all the time it makes sense: when our speakers write an academic hardcover, it might not be possible, but otherwise we can have a shot.
